Virgin Media and TiVo looks like a winner

The Virgin Media combined TiVo cable TV and broadband platform has attracted a significant interest and have received thousands of pre-registrations says Chief Executive Neil Berkett. He said over 50,000 people have shown interest in signing up for the new service.

Commercial launch is schedule for the second quarter of 2011 but there has been a soft rollout already. Once brought to market the technology will be aggressively promoted in the second half of the year.

A real step change in home entertainment will be offered by our TV service, as customers benefit from the power of the Virgin Media network, says the executive.

All this news comes on the heels of the announcement that TiVo is withdrawing support for all its Series 1 digital video recorders in the UK. From June 1 the boxes will be reduced to limited or no functionality.
