Sainsbury's enter the e-book market after buying share in Anobii

The giant supermarket chain, Sainsbury’s are going to be challenging Amazon in the e-book market. They have bought the 64 percent stake that HMV owned in social network and digital book retailer Anobii. Sainsbury’s have paid just one pound for the company.

Anobii has more than half a million users and a library of 60,000 e-books. It is available on a whole range of smartphones, e-readers and tablet devices. On their social network, users can review books and rate them and then share this information with other users.

Head of Digital Entertainment at Sainsbury’s, Mark Bennett, says that this acquisition will be a great addition to the supermarket’s portfolio and will help to support the future growth of the company. He also said that it shows how Sainsbury’s are committed to becoming a key player in this market. He added that they are very excited about working with the Anobii team.
