BMW to build hybrid engines in the UK

BMW recently announced that they are going to construct the engine for a hybrid sports car which is going to be charged by being plugged in. The company has announced that this vehicle is going to be produced near its current factory which is located in Birmingham. This has assured that the company is going to be keeping the UK in line with this latest generation of car technology.

The business secretary, Vince Cable, has said that the decision to construct the engines in the UK shows that the automotive sector in the country has a continuing strength which continues to grow. He commented, “This just goes to show the many international companies still see the UK as a fantastic place to develop technologies, in this case vehicle technologies that have a focus on low emissions.”

This announcement comes after BMW just announced last year that they are going to be spending £500 million in the country to modernise its construction plants which are located in Birmingham as well as Oxford, where Minis are constructed. In the last two years around £5 billion has been spent by motor companies on the UK including companies such as Lands Rover, Vauxhall and Nissan.
